Background on CWOP: The Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) is a private-public partnership with three main goals: 1) to collect weather data contributed by citizens; 2) to make this data available for weather services and homeland security; and 3) to provide feedback to the data contributors so that they have the tools to check and improve their data quality. In fact, the web address - wxqa.com - stands for “weather quality assurance”.

My site "CW8100" went online with CWOP via APRSWXNET in May of 2007. It originally started out as a hobby and has grown into what you see today. Someone has asked me if there was any profit in running a weather station. Quite the opposite is true actually. Purchase and maintenance of weather equipment, computers, high speed cable, 24 hour operations, quality control checks, software adjustments and time etc...But I enjoy what I do. As for the web site, technically the data is already flowing to NOAA via CWOP and MADIS so a quick configuration change also uploads the same data to the web as a neighborhood public service.
